      <title>Women's Health and Contraception</title>
      <description>Georgetown Law Center student Sandra Fluke testified about women's health and contraception. She had been blocked from testifying at a House Oversight and Government Reform Committee the previous week on the 2010 health care law regulation requiring employers and insurers provide contraception coverage to their employees. Committee members noted that the previous hearing only had men as witnesses, leading Democratic leaders to call a separate hearing to let a woman's voice be part of the discussion.</description>

      <title>Partnerships for Emergency Preparedness</title>
      <description>At their fifth public hearing, focused on "Emergency Preparedness," the commission heard from panels of business officials and federal, state, and local government representatives; and individuals working to enhance emergency preparedness in the private sector. With nearly 85 percent of the critical infrastructure of the country owned and operated by the private sector cooperation between the public and private sectors is necessary to achieve emergency preparedness. The witnesses testified about lessons learned from the events of September 11, 2001 and other disasters, and about initiatives taken since then, and strategies for further preparedness. Among issues addressed were insurance coverage, skyscraper safety, building codes, standards for what constitutes being prepared, procedures for making and enforcing codes, positive and negative incentives, and public education.</description>
