      <title>Venezuelan State Funeral of President Hugo Chavez</title>
      <description>Interim President of Venezuela Nicolas Maduro and the Reverend Jesse Jackson, Sr., spoke at the funeral of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. The funeral was held in Caracas, Venezuela, on Friday March 8, 2013. President Chavez, who had cancer, died on March 5, 2013, at the age of 58.
During the event English was consecutively translated into Spanish. The television transmission has Spanish simultaneously translated into English.

      <description>Mr. Blustein talked about his book [And the Money Kept Rolling In (and Out):  Wall Street, the IMF, and the Bankrupting of Argentina], published by PublicAffairs. The book described the economic collapse of Argentina in 2001. The author contended that in the late 1990s Argentina employed new policies that were in keeping with the ideologies of the International Monetary Fund, Wall Street financial institutions, and the World Bank. When Argentina failed to successfully implement these policies, the result was a complete collapse of not only the economic infrastructure but the government as well, leaving millions in financial ruin. Following his remarks he answered questions from the audience.</description>

Colombia's Congress approved the CTPA in 2007, but the U.S. has yet to do so. Colombia is currently the 27th largest U.S. goods trading partner, with $27.7 billion in total two-way goods traded in 2010. She also responded to telephone calls and electronic communications.

      <title>Venezuela State of the Nation Address</title>
      <description>President Chavez delivered his state of the nation address to members of the Venezuelan National Assembly. In December the lame-duck Assembly granted President Chavez the power to govern by decree for 18 months, bypassing the legislature. In the full seven-hour speech, President Chavez offered to reduce the time to govern by decree from 18 months to 5 months. 
This one-hour portion focuses on crime prevention, the global financial crisis and creating tougher drug trafficking laws in the country.</description>

She would spend the next six and a half years in the depths of the jungle as a prisoner. Ms. Betancourt responded to questions from members of the audience.

The NASA team of two medical doctors, a psychologist and an engineer arrived in Chile Aug. 31.</description>

      <description>David Grann talked about and showed slides from [The Lost City of Z: A Tale of Deadly Obsession in the Amazon] (Doubleday, 2009). In the book he recalls the journey of British explorer Percy Fawcett who went missing in the Amazon rainforest in 1925 while searching for the supposed lost city of El Dorado. Mr. Grann recounts the subsequent explorers who ventured into the Amazon in hopes of finding El Dorado and the peril they faced. Following his remarks he responded to audience members' questions.
David Grann is a staff writer for the [New Yorker] and contributing editor at the [New Republic]. His writing has appeared in several other publications, including the [Wall Street Journal] and the [Atlantic].</description>

      <title>Book Discussion on [Fordlandia]</title>
      <description>Greg Grandin talked about his book [Fordlandia: The Rise and Fall of Henry Ford's Forgotten Jungle City] (Metropolitan Books; June 9, 2009). He recounts Henry Ford's creation of a factory town in the Amazon in 1927 to produce rubber. The town, Fordlandia, complete with movie theaters and Model Ts, was rejected by the indigenous population and abandoned by Ford in 1945. Mr. Grandin responded to questions from members of the audience.
Greg Grandin is the author of several books, including [The Last Colonial Massacre: Latin America in the Cold War] (University of Chicago Press, 2004). Mr. Grandin is a history professor at New York University and a Guggenheim fellow. He has served on the United Nations Truth Commission that investigated the Guatemalan Civil War.

In his book Uruguayan author Eduardo Galeano tells a history of the world through 600 brief stories of human adversity, focusing on people often ignored by history. Several passages of the book were read. The guest interviewer was John Dinges. They also discussed Mr. Galeano's 1971 book, [Open Veins of Latin America: Five Centuries of the Pillage of a Continent], which Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez gave to President Obama during the Fifth Summit of the Americas in April 2009. They talked about Mr. Galeano's life and career, including military regimes, book bans, and repression.

 Michael Rowan is a political consultant for U.S. and Latin American leaders. He has advised former Bolivian president Jaime Paz Zamora and Costa Rican president Oscar Arias. Mr. Rowan has also counseled winning Democratic candidates in 30 U.S. states. He is a former president of the International Association of Political Consultants.</description>
