      <title>[Guns In Our Schools]</title>
      <description>Alexandra Chandler's video, [Guns in Our Schools], was one of the high school section second prize-winning videos in C-SPAN Classroom's StudentCam video documentary contest. She was an eleventh grader at Clearwater High School in Clearwater, Florida.
The local cable company was Bright House Networks. 
C-SPAN Classroom's StudentCam video documentary contest was an annual national competition in which middle and high school students produced a documentary on a specific theme.*In the 2013 contest participants were asked to send a message to the president on the issue they consider most important in 2013.</description>

      <title>Book Discussion on [Bath Massacre]</title>
      <description>Arnie Bernstein talked about his book [Bath Massacre: America's First School Bombing] (University of Michigan Press; March 16, 2009). In his book he presents a history of the worst school attack in U.S. history. On May 18, 1927, school board treasurer Andrew Kehoe set off explosives in the basement of the Bath Consolidated School in Bath, Michigan, that killed 38 children and 6 adults. Mr. Kehoe also killed himself by explosive detention in his car, burned his farm, and murdered his wife. Mr. Bernstein details how Bath was changed after the attack and profiles several of the survivors. Mr. Bernstein talked about Mr. Kehoe's history and psychological profile. He also talked about the process of researching the book. Mr. Bernstein responded to questions from members of the audience. This event was held on Saturday, May 2, 2009, at 1 p.m. ET in the Downtown Lansing Library by the Capitol Area District Library.

      <description>Dave Cullen talked about his book [Columbine] (Twelve; April 6, 2009). In his book, on the 10th anniversary of the mass murders, he presents a comprehensive account of the shootings on Tuesday, April 20, 1999, at Columbine High School in Columbine near Littleton, Colorado. He talked about the psychology of the shooters, how they evolved into killers, and the stories of the victims and survivors. Other topics included the media coverage of the event and his process of writing the book.
Dave Cullen, the recipient of several journalism awards, is a graduate of the University of Colorado at Boulder. He has written extensively about the shootings at Columbine. Book TV interviewed Dave Cullen on April 26, 2009, while at the [Los Angles Times] Festival of Books.</description>

Four of these school districts were recent recipients of Department of Labor grants aimed at improving educational achievement among at-risk youth. The administrators talked about mentoring programs at their schools.</description>

      <description>President Bush moderated the closing panel of the White House Conference on School Safety held after several recent school shootings. The panel titled "Working Together to Make Our Schools Safe," focused on the day's proceedings of the conference and strategies to minimize the problem of school violence. During the discussion, Attorney Genreal Gonzales and Secretary Spellings answered questions from members of the audience on several topics including school safety monitoring, law enforcement programs in schools, monitoring child behavior, and programs to foster safe environments in schools. The issue of gun control was not raised.</description>
