Representative Maxine Waters Ethics Violation Charges

The committee met to consider allegations that Mikael Moore, the grandson and chief of staff of Representative Maxine Waters (D-CA), pressured the Treasury Department to give a bailout to OneUnited, a minority-owned bank in which Representative Waters' husband held stock and had served on the board of directors. Members ruled that Mr. Moore did violate House ethics rules rand would receive a letter of admonishment for his actions.
Prior to the hearing, Representative Waters was cleared of ethics violations charges related to OneUnited, following a two-year investigation. Committee members announced that outside lawyers had determined that Representative Waters acted to represent all minority-owned banks, rather than her husband's specifically.
