Senator Simpson also talked about the book and about his life. He told stories about the author, the late Senator Ted Kennedy, and about some of the guests, including former Vice President and Mrs. Cheney, former Secretary Mineta, Librarian of Congress Billington, and Representative Dingell.</description>

Also speaking were former Secretary Norman Mineta and former Senator Alan Simpson, honorary co-chairs of the advisory council. The lifelong friends met at Heart Mountain through the Boy Scouts when Mineta was incarcerated there with his family.</description>

      <description>A number of officials addressed the National League of Cities conference at the Washington Hilton and Towers. Speeches focused on partnerships and joint programs between the federal government and local governments, as well as the league's 2004 federal advocacy priorities. The priorities included maintaining and or increasing federal funding for local programs in the areas of homeland security, public safety, transportation, children and families, and housing. The other priorities were to continue to block the Internet Tax Non-discrimination Act of 2003, and to prevent bills or amendments that would absolve producers of Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether (MTBE) of liability. Mr. Hunt served as master of ceremonies.
 
 Alaska Rep. Don Young was scheduled to speak at this event, but was not present due to an emergency.</description>

      <description>County officials from across the country attended the National Association of Counties' 2004 Legislative Conference at the Washington Hilton Hotel. Secretary of Transportation Minetta highlighted the economic benefits of a new transportation bill. He characterized the Administration's six-year $256 billion surface transportation bill as fiscally responsible and crucial to the nation's economy and job growth. 
 
 At the start of the meeting, Mr. Stapley showed a video of the site of the next annual conference in Maricopa County, Arizona. After Secretary Minetta's speech Mr. Kyle read a list of the counties that were new members of the association.
