Kimberly Kagan talked about her book The Surge: A Military History (Encounter Books; October 25, 2008). The book is a history of "the surge" in Iraq which began in mid-2007. In her book Ms. Kagan attempts to educate civilians both in what happened and what the future possibilities are. The guest interviewer was Iraq War veteran Pete Hegseth.
Kimberly Kagan is the founder and president of the Institute for the Study of War. A military historian, she has taught at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Yale University, Georgetown University, and American University and is the author of The Eye of Command (University of Michigan Press, 2006). Ms. Kagan has conducted assessments for the military in both Iraq and Afghanistan.
Pete Hegseth, currently chairman and executive director of Vets for Freedom, is a veteran of the war in Iraq 2005-2006 and returned to Iraq in February and August 2008 to the report on the situation there.
