The Senate Judiciary Committee held its fourth day of hearings on the appointment of Elena Kagan to the U.S. Supreme Court seat vacated by the retirement of Justice John Paul Stevens. Witnesses called by both the majority and minority members testified about their impressions of Solicitor General Kagan, her record, and their views of her qualifications for a place on the Supreme Court. Witnesses addressed a number of issues including civil rights, gun control, abortion, campaign finance, military recruiting, and Solicitor General Kagan's temperament.
