The 2005 Defense Base Closure and Realignment Commission (BRAC) held a regional hearing on the list of possible closures and realignments of defense bases. Elected officials and community representatives testified about the impact of closing or realigning military installations in Alabama. The installations under consideration were Redstone Arsenal, Anniston Army Depot, Fort Rucker, Maxwell-Gunter Air Force Base, and the Air National Guard Birmingham.
