Jamestown Island, Virginia, is on the James River about 35 miles from the Atlantic Ocean. In 1994 archaeologists found evidence there of the original 1607 English settlement. Since then, the Jamestown Rediscovery Archaeology Project has unearthed more than a million artifacts. Bly Straub, head of conservation, gave a tour of the project's archaeology and conservation labs to show how history is revealed through artifacts.
