Governor Haley Barbour told the committee that BP was often more responsive than the federal government in responding to requests from state officials in the aftermath of the April 2010 oil spill. He also said he believed the $20 billion compensation fund set up by BP was working well, and blamed what he described as misleading media coverage of the spill for some of the negative economic impact on his state.
