Jere Van Dyk talked about being held prisoner by the Taliban in 2008. Mr. Van Dyk and his guides spent 45 days in a dark cell after being captured by Taliban fighters in the tribal areas between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Mr. Van Dyk discussed his experiences with New Yorker staff writer George Packer. Mr. Packer's latest book is Interesting Times.
