Kassenbaum, member of the Senate Foreign Relations committee and ranking member on the subcommittee on Africa, discussed the lifting of economic sanctions against South Africa, announced earlier in the day by President Bush. She supported the lifting of economic sanctions on the grounds that the five conditions laid out in the Comprehensive Anti-Apartheid Act of 1986 under which sanctions could be removed had been fulfilled.
