The 2005 Defense Base Closure and Realignment Commission began final deliberations before submitting its report to the president on September 8, 2005. Commissioners heard reports for staff members and considered several motions and amendments to Defense Department recommendations.

In the afternoon of the third day of the final hearings, motions focused on recommendations for Air Force base realignments and closures. Mr. Small presented a review and analysis of the Air Force’s recommendations for closure and realignment. 

Cannon Air Force Base (NM) and Moody Air Force Base (GA) were considered for realignment and the Commission decided to approve both recommendations.
