The Supreme Court heard oral arguments in the case of District of Columbia v. Heller, in which a 1976 law was challenged that had the effect of banning handguns in the District of Columbia. The Court will decide the central meaning of the Second Amendment’s “right of the people to keep and bear arms,” and whether it is an individual right or a right in relation to service in a state militia. Walter Dellinger is a former solicitor general.

This program contained the audio recording released by the court immediately after the arguments were presented. Still images of participants were shown on the screen as they spoke. Justice Thomas did not speak.
