In commemoration of the 75th birthday of Elvis Presley on January 8, 2010, the National Archives held a discussion of his White House meeting with then President Richard Nixon on December 21, 1970. Egil “Bud” Krogh, who was assistant to the counsel to the president 1969"1973, and Jerry Schilling, a long-time friend of Elvis Presley, were present in the Oval Office. They gave their eyewitness accounts of the meeting along with on-screen projections of related photographs, memos, and correspondence in the holdings of the National Archives. A video clip of an interview with former President Nixon in 1990 was also shown. They responded to questions from members of the audience. Mr. Naftali moderated.
