Witnesses testified on the role of credit rating agencies in the financial crisis, using as case histories the credit rating agencies of Standard & Poor’s and Moody’s. Former credit rating industry executives said that competitive pressures, financial awards and poor internal controls led analysts to award high ratings to risky investments.
