Sandy Tolan talked about his book The Lemon Tree: An Arab, a Jew, and the Heart of the Middle East, published by Bloomsbury USA. In the book, Mr. Tolan chronicled the friendship of Bashir Al-Khairi and Dalia Eshkenazi; a Palestinian man and an Israeli woman. Mr. Tolan explained that the two met when Bashir returned to his childhood home to find that it was inhabited by a family of Holocaust survivors from Bulgaria, including their young daughter Dalia. At the event Mr. Tolan read portions of the book and discussed their personal relationship within the context of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He responded to questions from members of the audience.
This event was part of the Seattle Spiritual Reading Series, co-sponsored by University Book Store and the University District Interfaith Alliance and held at the University Temple United Methodist Church.
