The U.S. Supreme Court heard oral argument in the case Meredith v. Jefferson County Board of Education. Plaintiff, Crystal Meredith, son’s Louisville, Kentucky, school district required most schools to maintain a black enrollment of 15 percent to 50 percent. The Court would decide the role race could play when assigning students to K-12 schools in an effort to achieve diversity.
