President Obama made remarks in the Oso, Washington, firehouse after viewing some of the destruction and meeting with first responders, volunteers, and the families affected by the town’s March 22, 2014, mudslide. At least 41 people were killed and dozens of homes were destroyed when a rain-saturated hill along the Stillaguamish River gave way, leaving a debris pile 70 feet thick in some places. close
