Chief Justice Rehnquist’s coffin was placed on the funeral bier first used by Abraham Lincoln to lay in repose as officials, dignitaries, and well-wishers passed by to pay their respects.

This portion included the procession up the steps of the Supreme Court building into the Great Hall and public memorial remarks prior to a private ceremony for the family and public viewing.
