The panelists talked about the role individuals of conscience play in standing up for scientific truth. Topics included censorship and suppression of federal science, dissemination of inaccurate science-based information, and the manipulation of scientific advice. It was noted that some scientists allege that the Bush administration misuses and distorts scientific data to advance political objectives and to serve supporters in the tobacco and fossil fuel businesses. Mr. Cohen moderated the panel discussion. After their presentations the panelists responded to audience members' questions.
Mr. Piltz is a former senior associate in the White House Climate Change Science Program. Mr. Wigand was a tobacco industry whistleblower and the subject of the movie, “The Insider.” Mr. Dzakovic was a Transportation Security Administration whistle-blower.
