Netflix general counsel David Hyman and two online privacy advocates testified on a House-passed bill, HR 2471, that would allow Netflix and other online video providers to seek one-time consent from their customers in order to share rental histories on social media sites like Facebook. The bill would change a law passed in 1988 that restricted the disclosure of video rental histories without customers' written consent after a journalist printed Supreme Court nominee Robert Bork's video rental history in a newspaper.
