The 2009 Atlantic Council awards dinner commemorated the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. Former President George H.W. Bush and former German Chancellor Helmut Kohl were honored for international leadership to mark the 20th anniversary of a unified Germany. General David Petraeus, commander of U.S. Central Command, was honored for military leadership. IBM chairman Samuel Palmisano was honored for business leadership. Thomas Hampson, baritone, was honored for artistic leadership and also sang. Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough were the mistress and master of ceremonies.
