Kennedy 1961 Inaugural Speech

January 21, 2011

This is the 50th anniversary of John F. Kennedy’s 1961 inaugural. In the U.S. Capitol Rotunda the other day, political leaders gathered to commemorate his inaugural and the audio of his speech. Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg was present for the occasion. That event can be watched here. The C-SPAN Video Library contains a video copy of the original address. We thought we would highlight it here for anyone who wanted to watch it.

State of the Union addresses are an annual activity on Capitol Hill and one that C-SPAN covers in their entirety. The C-SPAN Video Library contains State of the Union addresses going back to 1984. You can find this programming collected on this page. There is a calendar on the page that will enable you to zero in on a particular year of interest. Enjoy a walk down the past.

Sargent Shriver, 1915-2011

January 19, 2011

Programs featuring Sargent Shriver can be found in the C-SPAN Video Library. There are eight programs on which he appears. These range from a panel with Robert McNamara on the Cold War to programs about the Peace Corp of which he was the first director. There is also a program about his life which features his biographer. On the occasion of his death, we thought it was appropriate to point out the programs about his life. You can always use the Video Library to learn about individuals.

Video Library Now Offers Downloads

January 6, 2011

The C-SPAN Video Library now offers users the ability purchase clips and programs and download them to their own computers. Some users have requested this so that they do not need access to the Internet when making presentations. Downloaded clips can be easily incorporated into Powerpoint presentations.

Initially all congressional committees and all White House events have been prepared for fast downloads. Other videos that are available for embedding can be requested for downloading. These videos will take longer to process and you will be notified by email when the download is ready.

Each download costs a small amount of money since you are purchasing video to take away from the site. They are much cheaper than DVDs, but the concept is the same. We think that downloads will be welcomed by some who need to have the video locally. The download button appears under the purchase tab.

The same use restrictions governing DVDs apply to downloads. The $100 annual license is available to organizations wishing to post downloaded video on their sites. There remains no charge for using links and embeds which always point back to our site.
