Iowa Caucuses

With the Iowa caucuses just days away, the Video Library is a treasure trove of programs of candidates campaigning in Iowa, caucuses from previous years, and programs about the impact of the Iowa caucuses. Just type in Iowa caucuses in the search box and you will find many results.

You can also go to the Browse page > Browse by location and select Iowa to see all the recent programs from Iowa. This snapshot shows the programs in Iowa from the past two weeks. One can narrow the search by typing in a candidate name in the person box on the left.

The Contenders: A Look Back

This week C-SPAN looks back at its Contenders series this Friday evening at 8:00 PM on C-SPAN. The fourteen-week series has ended. Each program originated from a historic site and featured fourteen men who lost the presidency, but changed history. These contenders were candidates in at least one national election and changed political history as a result of it. This week we look back the series and what we have learned..

Contenders featured include Henry Clay, James G. Blaine, William Jennings Bryan, Eugene Debs, Charles Evan Hughes, Al Smith, Wendell Willkie, Thomas E. Dewey, Adlai Stevenson, Barry Goldwater, Hubert Humphrey, George Wallace, George McGovern, and Ross Perot. Watch them live each Friday night or view them in the Video Library at this site. Christopher Hitchens, 1949-2011

Christopher Hitchens, writer, columnist, and social critic, had many appearances on C-SPAN, dating back to his first one in 1983 His final appearance was a Q&A interview in 2011 where he talked about his illness.

In addition to his earliest interview in 1983, his Booknotes interview, a three-hour In-Depth interview, and another Q&A interview, he debated Tony Blair about religion as a force for good in the world.

C-SPAN viewers might start at his bio page to review the many appearances of this witty, engaging guest, who challenged many conventional assumptions.

Cameras in the Courts

This week follow the issue with of cameras in the Supreme Court through a Tuesday hearing of the Senate Judiciary subcommittee. The hearing will be in the C-SPAN Video Library. You can also follow this issue through our special page which contains previous statements and information about cameras in the Supreme Court. C-SPAN has made a request to televise the hearings on the health care bill which will take place later this year. You can find the page here.
