Sen. Al Franken Eulogy for Tom Davis

July 27, 2012

Often senators come to the floor to give tributes to friends, soldiers, fellow senators, and prominent individuals. Senator Al Franken (D-MN) recently eulogized his life-long friend, fellow writer and comedian, and Saturday Night Live contributor. This eulogy is touching, heartfelt, and humorous. It was clipped by a C-SPAN Video Library user.

Senator Russell B. Long

July 20, 2012

Senator Russell Long was one of the last of the long-serving southern senators who have video in the Video Library. Interesting, Senator Long was opposed to Senate television and delayed the implementation of Senate television from 1981 to 1986. He retired at the end of 1986 just when Senate television began. Senator Byrd changed his own mind about Senate television because he feared his beloved Senate was becoming less visible than the televised House. So, he went to Senator Long and convinced Long to drop his opposition to television. In this interview from 1985, Long talks about his opposition to television.

Upon his death, Senator Byrd delivered a tribute to him on the Senate floor.

More Ways to Follow User Clips

The C-SPAN Video Library has added another new feature to follow clips created by users. Just select Popular User Clips on the Video Library front page. There are three tabs that allow you to select what clips you see. You can first select popular clips for today, for the last seven days, the last thirty days, or for all time. The center tab allows you see to see clips created today, clips created in the last seven days, or clips created in the last thirty days. This is a good way to see what new clips have been added. The final tab allows you to filter by category. You can select categories such as call-ins, hearings, floor proceedings, or White House, to name just a few. Use these filter to see what others are finding in the C-SPAN Video Library.
