The Length of Bill Clinton’s Convention Speeches

September 6, 2012

Since former President Bill Clinton has now addressed Democratic conventions seven times, it is possible to use the video to measure the length of each of these speeches. C-SPAN did this using the C-SPAN Video Library. The results are published in the C-SPAN Convention Hub web site and reproduced here.

Use the C-SPAN Video Library for your own research. It is all available free to watch, clip, share and, yes, measure.

  • This graph shows the length of time for Clinton’s speech at the 2012 DNC to be 48 speaking minutes. How many minutes was it viewling time? That’s what counts.

  • Bill Clinton also spoke on 8/14/1980 and on 7/16/1984 at Democratic National Conventions. (See the book titled “Preface to the Presidency: Selected Speeches of Bill Clinton, 1974-1992″ compiled and edited by Stephen A. Smith.)
