George McGovern, 1922-2012
October 21, 2012
George McGovern, former Democratic senator and 1972 Democratic presidential candidate, passed away at age ninety. Although he ran for president before C-SPAN, he still has over seventy appearances in the C-SPAN Video Library. You can even watch his 1972 convention acceptance speech. There are oral histories and he was the subject of our Contenders series in 2011 in which historians and analysts looked at significant figures who did not win the presidency but shaped history. Use the C-SPAN Video Library to understand more about George McGovern.

George McGovern was my inspiration in politics and the first vote I ever cast . He was a great and decent man whose beliefs and policies have been vindicated with the passage of time. What a fine President he would have made.

Condolence to his family. He would have been a good President and America will not have the watergate scandal if he was the President of USA Rest in peace senator
