Who Spoke the Most at Health Care Summit?

March 2, 2010

Did you know that for congressional hearings and programs such as the White House Health Care Summit that you can quickly tell how long the participants spoke? On the program page, look under the people tag. All the people who participated are arranged by the amount of time that they spoke. Next to each name is the total amount of time that they spoke during the event.

President Obama spoke the most, about an hour during the morning and also the afternoon sessions. He was followed by Sen. Alexander (R-TN) who spoke for fourteen minutes, and then by Majority Leader Reid (D-NV) and Speaker Pelosi (D-CA) who spoke for about eight minutes each. In the afternoon session, Vice President Biden was second with an eight minute speech.

You can use this feature on congressional hearings as well.

  • It was President Obama’s responsibility to speak the most ! He had to keep control of the meeting and keep the republicans from spinning reality and truth like they always do.

  • Tom is absolutely right.
People got together to talk with President.
It should be he that spoke the most.

  • Tom & Reese,

I wonder if you actually watched the summit. Obama was completely one-sided in his remarks, which is understandable but this is more than “keeping control”. Why couldn’t the democrats (other then Obama) speak on their own behalf?

Also, if you watched it at all critically you would notice that Obama deflected difficult issues by wandering far off topic.

  • Naturally the party in control should speak the most, and surely the president would speak the most with other can-do leaders of the party in majority. At least the democratic party can speak. This question seems childish and immature like it came from the republican side. They can’t speak unles they are promoting fear and lies. The republican party has a problem because there is a black man in charge, and we all know that they just can’t handle the fact that black people have always got to come in and clean up after they screw up everything. As a black man, I don’t have to know anything else other than the republican party is the party of white racists men. History will show that…

You said, “Obama deflected difficult issues by wandering far off topic.”

    I do not think so.

In the middle of discussion, suddend;y McCain said, “We should start over.”
What is that??? It is nothing but a political statement.
The meeting was about making health care BETTER. setting the best from both parties. One republican mentioned an important fact. One third of every dollar in heath care is being wasted. Every democrat agreed with him. And that is the reason they got together.
HOWEVER, A few republicants still say just ‘start over.’
It’s not time to start over, but make the precess.

  • Republicans only speak fears, lies and are all racist white people. Wow you really know how to wear that critical thinking cap don’t you?

Might be time for a little self analysis.

  • Also they are saying start over because this huge bill is so incredibly flawed that it is a mistake to even consider it. Medical costs are incredibly expensive. We can’t fix that problem by throwing government money at it and raising taxes. Insurance contributes to 5% of the cost of a medical procedure. Insurance is a problem but a minor one at best. It should not even be discussed when addressing the problems with health care.

The problem is it is $10,000 to give birth! Not who is going to pay for it. No one can afford that, certainly not the federal government.

The only ones this will help are unions, and big businesses that promised outrageous benefits to retirees and can no longer afford them.

  • The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the presidency. It will be easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to an electorate willing to have such a man for their president.
The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails us.
Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The republic can survive a Barack Obama.
It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president.”

  • PEOPLE NEED TO STOP BEING RUDE AND CONTINUALLY DISRESPECTFUL TO BARACK. HE IS EQUALLY GODS CHILD AS ALL OF US AND HE IS HUMAN, SO IRRELEVANT HIS COLOR. HE IS A MAN1 THEREFORE, HE IS NOT BLACK NOR WHITE. PEOPLE NEED TO GET A REAL LIFE1 THE ONLY NIGGER IS THE DEVIL. HUMANS ARE NOT NIGGERS1
